Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Discover is supporting an established manufacturing business in Carlisle that is looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to its engineering team.
The business operates a large-scale manufacturing facility with a strong focus on equipment reliability, operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased engineer who enjoys hands-on maintenance, fault-finding and machinery improvements within a busy production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on industrial machinery and production equipment.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults to minimise downtime and maintain production efficiency.
Maintain and repair hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical drive systems.
Support machinery installations, upgrades and commissioning activities.
Inspect equipment, identify potential reliability issues and recommend improvements.
Work closely with engineering and production teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety and engineering standards.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and completed work.
Time-served Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with a relevant technical qualification.
HNC qualification or at least three years' relevant industrial engineering experience.
Proven experience maintaining and fault-finding on industrial production machinery.
Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical drive systems, including gearboxes, chains, belts and sprockets.
Experience with machining, including lathes and milling machines, would be advantageous.
Fabrication and mechanical installation experience would also be beneficial.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of an engineering team.
A proactive approach to maintenance, safety and continuous improvement.
The position is primarily days-based, Monday to Friday, but flexibility is required to cover a rotating shift pattern or weekends when operationally necessary.
