Principal/Associate Electrical Engineer

An established building services consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal or Associate Electrical Engineer to join its well-structured and rapidly growing team in Cambridge. Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of electrical building services systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security and associated infrastructure.
Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK Building Regulations, BS 7671, British Standards and applicable industry guidance.
Undertake and review electrical calculations, including load assessments, diversity calculations, fault level analysis, circuit protection and cable sizing.
Produce and review technical specifications, electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, design reports and cost estimates.
Oversee electrical design, drafting and modelling activities using relevant industry software, including Revit and AutoCAD.
Carry out site surveys and inspections, assessing existing installations and monitoring progress against design requirements.
Manage technical submissions, Building Control documentation and relevant electrical compliance records.
Coordinate with clients, architects, mechanical engineers, contractors, specialist subcontractors and statutory authorities to ensure successful project delivery.
Liaise with Distribution Network Operators regarding new electrical connections, upgrades and associated infrastructure requirements.
Incorporate energy efficiency and sustainability considerations into electrical designs, including intelligent lighting controls, energy monitoring, LED systems and low-carbon technologies.
Provide technical guidance and quality assurance throughout the design process, resolving complex engineering challenges and maintaining high standards of delivery.
Support and mentor junior engineers, contributing to knowledge sharing, professional development and the continued growth of the wider team.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying opportunities for repeat business and supporting wider business development activities.
Requirements
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
The willingness to work in a fast paced but rewarding consultancy environment
Significant experience delivering electrical building services design projects within a UK consultancy environment.
Strong technical knowledge of BS 7671, UK Building Regulations and relevant British Standards, including requirements relating to fire safety, energy efficiency, accessibility and electrical safety.
Experience leading electrical design packages and taking responsibility for technical quality, coordination and project delivery.
Proficiency in relevant design software, particularly Revit MEP and/or AutoCAD.
Understanding of electrical calculations, specifications, technical reporting and design coordination across multidisciplinary project teams.
Experience liaising with clients, contractors, Building Control and other external stakeholders.
Knowledge of sustainable building design, energy-efficient electrical systems and emerging technologies such as EV charging, renewable energy integration and smart building controls.
Desirable:
Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards professional registration through the IET.
Experience working towards BREEAM or other sustainability standards.
Familiarity with CDM Regulations and the requirements associated with electrical design risk management.
Previous experience in a Senior, Principal or Associate position
