An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Civil Engineer to join a leading UK engineering consultancy based in Dundee. This role is ideally suited to an engineer with post-graduate experience who is looking to further develop their career within a collaborative and technically diverse environment.
The successful candidate will become part of a well-established civil engineering team delivering infrastructure projects across the commercial, retail, residential, and industrial sectors. Working closely with experienced directors, engineers, and technicians, they will play a key role in the design and delivery of innovative engineering solutions while benefiting from structured professional development and support towards chartership.
The Role
The Civil Engineer will be involved in the design, coordination, and delivery of infrastructure schemes, taking responsibility for technical design work, project delivery, client liaison, and supporting junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Design & Engineering
- Design infrastructure projects including:
- Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS)
- Roads designed to adoptable standards
- DMRB-compliant highways
- Undertake engineering analysis and design using industry-standard software, including PDS, MicroDrainage, and AutoCAD.
- Carry out site inspections, surveys, and technical assessments to inform design solutions.
- Prepare high-quality engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
Project Delivery
- Manage and prioritise workload across multiple projects, ensuring delivery to agreed programmes and budgets.
- Assist with project planning, risk assessments, specifications, and design schedules.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project outcomes and timely delivery.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with local authorities, drainage authorities, highways departments, and other statutory consultees.
- Attend project meetings, site visits, and client consultations.
- Provide clear technical advice and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Participate in quality assurance processes, including design reviews and technical checking procedures.
- Maintain awareness of project budgets, risk management requirements, and health and safety obligations.
Mentoring & Team Support
- Support and guide junior engineers and technicians in their technical and professional development.
- Contribute positively to a collaborative team culture through knowledge sharing and technical support.
- Demonstrate a proactive and professional approach to teamwork and project delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in civil engineering.
- Working towards or already holding professional accreditation such as ICE or equivalent.
- Post-graduate civil engineering experience, ideally within a consultancy environment.
- Proven experience in the design and delivery of infrastructure projects, including drainage, highways, and public realm schemes.
- Experience undertaking site inspections, surveys, and technical assessments.
- Ability to produce high-quality technical drawings, calculations, and reports.
- Strong technical design capability within civil engineering infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in PDS, MicroDrainage, and AutoCAD is essential.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.
