The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a proficient and seasoned CDM Advisor/Principal Designer to join our client’s expanding team in a multi-faceted consultancy in Oxford. The CDM Advisor will be tasked with offering customers guidance regarding the construction and design management regulations, along with a thorough risk assessment system during all phases of a construction or infrastructure undertaking.

How you will deliver

  • As the principal designer, you will oversee the design aspects of the project to ensure that the design is safe and complies with the relevant standards and regulations.
  • You will manage your own projects, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Provide CDM advice and support to client teams, guiding them on matters relating to Construction, Design, and Management (CDM) regulations.
  • Attend and coordinate design and project meetings as required, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and updated on the progress of the project.
  • Visit project sites to carry out initial risk appraisals and review arrangements, ensuring that all potential hazards are identified, assessed, and mitigated.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and distribute pre-construction health & safety information, including the development of a Construction Phase Plan and a Health and Safety File.
  • Issue F10 notifications, notifying the Health and Safety Executive of the project's commencement.
  • Review construction phase plans and lifting plans to ensure that they are in line with the project's Health & Safety requirements.
  • Conduct site H&S reviews, assess the compliance of the project with H&S regulations and produce reports for clients to provide them with a detailed overview of the project's H&S status.
  • Collate and produce health & safety files, ensuring that all necessary documentation is included and that the file is easily accessible and up-to-date.


Your skills and experience

  • Demonstrate practical experience in providing CDM services.
  • Hold at least Technical Membership with IOSH and working towards Graduate / Chartered status.
  • Membership with APS would be beneficial.
  • NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate is essential. NVQ 5 H&S or NEBOSH Diploma is preferred.
  • Good understanding of risk management and hazard identification
  • Good understanding of the design and construction process
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and time management skills
