This is a senior leadership position within a well-established sustainability team, offering the opportunity to lead major projects, manage and develop team members, and contribute to the wider growth of the sustainability function.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering sustainability strategies across complex developments, while also supporting business development and maintaining strong client relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the delivery of sustainability workstreams on large, complex projects
- Acting as a key client contact and representing the sustainability function in meetings
- Managing team workload, resourcing, and project priorities
- Providing line management, mentoring, and technical guidance to team members
- Overseeing the production and quality of technical deliverables
- Supporting financial performance, including fee management and resource planning
- Leading sustainability and energy strategy development
- Delivering environmental assessments such as BREEAM, WELL, and similar frameworks
- Overseeing analysis including embodied carbon, operational energy, overheating, and building performance
- Contributing to net zero carbon strategies and whole life carbon approaches
- Supporting research, innovation, and industry engagement initiatives
Key experience and knowledge may include:
- Energy and sustainability strategy development
- Building performance modelling and energy assessments
- Operational and in-use energy analysis
- Overheating and thermal comfort modelling
- Environmental certification frameworks (e.g. BREEAM, WELL)
- Net zero carbon strategies and embodied carbon assessments
- Planning documentation including energy and sustainability statements
- Circular economy principles and strategies
About the Candidate
- Proven experience within a sustainability consultancy environment
- Strong understanding of UK planning requirements, particularly within London
- Chartered status or equivalent professional recognition
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and managing teams
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- Ability to lead workshops and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary design teams
- Passion for sustainability and delivering practical, high-impact solutions
- Experience supporting and developing junior team members
