Senior Civil Engineer

A well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer to join its Liverpool team on a hybrid basis.
The role would suit an experienced civil engineer with a strong background in highways, infrastructure, drainage and external works, who is confident taking ownership of projects from feasibility and planning through to detailed design and construction.
The successful individual will work across a varied portfolio of private and public sector developments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors and statutory authorities to deliver technically robust and practical engineering solutions.
The Role
The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for leading and delivering civil engineering design across a range of projects, while supporting junior engineers and contributing to the development of the wider team.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading civil engineering design from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction.
- Producing and reviewing technical reports, calculations, drawings and 3D design models.
- Delivering highway, road, external works and pavement design.
- Designing foul, surface water and combined drainage systems, including SuDS.
- Preparing drainage strategies, flood risk assessments, SuDS verification reports and maintenance/management plans.
- Preparing technical submissions and supporting statutory approvals and agreements.
- Liaising with highway, water, statutory and local authorities.
- Working with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams to resolve technical issues and deliver project requirements.
- Managing design programmes, technical quality, resources and project budgets.
- Reviewing and checking technical work produced by engineers and technicians.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.
- Supporting fee proposals, project reviews, early warnings and compensation event quotations.
Technical Experience
Experience with a range of the following would be highly relevant:
- S38, S278, S106, S104, S185, S98, S102 and related highway/water agreements.
- TRO, VCO and AIP technical submissions.
- Highway and road design.
- SuDS design and drainage strategies.
- SuDS Maintenance & Management Plans.
- SuDS Verification Reports.
- Flood Risk Assessments.
- Combined, foul and surface water drainage design.
- Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.
Software
Experience with some of the following would be beneficial:
AutoCAD, Civil 3D, XP Site 3D, Causeway Flow, InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, AutoTrack, PDS Sign & Line, BIM and MS Office.
About You
The successful candidate is likely to be an experienced civil engineer who can take ownership of technical design work while working effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.
They will ideally have:
- Strong experience in civil engineering design, particularly highways, infrastructure and drainage.
- Experience managing projects through multiple design stages.
- Strong knowledge of UK highway, drainage and SuDS standards and approval processes.
- Experience liaising with clients, authorities and other project stakeholders.
- The ability to technically review and mentor less experienced engineers.
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive approach and the ability to work independently when required.
- A relevant civil engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
- Working towards or holding professional membership with ICE or a similar institution would be advantageous.
