As a metallurgist, your role involves applying principles of metallurgy and materials science to analyse, develop, and enhance metallic materials utilised across different industries. This entails conducting research, carrying out tests, and offering expertise to comprehend and optimise the properties of metals for manufacturing processes and product enhancement.


What you’ll do:

  • Conduct thorough research to comprehend the structure, properties, and behaviour of metallic materials.
  • Utilise various testing methods and equipment to analyse data and evaluate material properties.
  • Conduct tests on metals to evaluate their strength, durability, and other attributes.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure materials adhere to industry standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with teams to innovate new metallic materials or enhance existing ones.
  • Experiment with diverse alloys and processing techniques to elevate material performance.
  • Identify opportunities for refining manufacturing processes related to metal production, refining, and shaping.
  • Focus on enhancing efficiency and reducing costs while upholding quality standards.
  • Maintain meticulous records of experiments, test results, and research discoveries.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to effectively communicate findings to colleagues, management, or clients.
  • Ensure adherence to industry regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards in all metallurgical processes and experiments.


What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Strong grasp of metallurgical principles: phase diagrams, heat treatment, alloy development.
  • Proficient in microscopy, spectroscopy, and mechanical testing for analysis.
  • Familiarity with metallurgical analysis and simulation software/tools.
  • Effective problem-solving skills; capable of independent or team work.
  • Excellent communication for conveying technical information.
  • Bonus: Prior internship or academic research in metallurgy.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for metal component design and modelling.
  • Strong mechanical understanding for metal behaviour comprehension.
  • Knowledgeable in system design for optimising metal production.
  • Data analysis skills for interpreting experimental results.
  • Proficient in metallurgy-related mathematical calculations.
  • Familiarity with logic controllers for metal processing automation.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB and C++ for data analysis and simulation.
  • Project management skills for metallurgical project planning and execution.
  • Proficient in CAD software for detailed metal component drawings.
