The Role - Technical Consultant

Due to continued growth and success, the company is seeking an experienced Technical Consultant to join their expanding technical team. In this role, you will provide advanced technical support across a variety of client environments, ensuring the smooth operation of their IT infrastructure. Your work will involve maintaining and developing systems related to servers, storage, networks, and cloud technologies, as well as managing projects designed to improve performance, reliability, and security. You will act as an escalation point for technical issues, work directly with customers to resolve problems, and ensure all systems and processes are properly documented.

Responsibilities - Technical Consultant

As a Technical Consultant, you will provide 3rd line technical support to customers via phone, email, and remote access, monitoring and troubleshooting their IT environments through dedicated systems. You will research and recommend improvements to client infrastructure, manage network and server administration, and oversee systems including Active Directory, Entra, LAN/WAN, and hosted Exchange environments. The role requires taking ownership of technical escalations, liaising with third-party providers when necessary, and maintaining detailed technical documentation and reports for both clients and internal teams.

About You - Technical Consultant

The ideal candidate will have experience in a 3rd line technical consultancy role, ideally within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment. You should be confident working independently as well as part of a small, close-knit team. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to manage your own workload effectively. You will be proactive, enthusiastic, and have a strong problem-solving mindset, with a genuine interest in technology and a desire to keep developing your technical knowledge.

Qualifications and Experience - Technical Consultant 

Candidates should hold a minimum of five GCSEs and two A Levels, or equivalent qualifications. Additional IT-related certifications or professional accreditations, such as Microsoft MCSA, would be advantageous. You will have at least five years of experience providing 3rd line technical support, with strong knowledge of Microsoft environments including Windows Desktop, Office, and Server systems. A solid understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, Office 365, Azure, and Entra is essential. Familiarity with virtualisation technologies such as Hyper-V or VMware, as well as cloud platforms like Azure and AWS, will also be beneficial.


Knowledge of LAN, WAN, and Wi-Fi configuration, server hardware, storage systems, and backup and disaster recovery solutions is important, as is an understanding of IT security, including data protection, encryption, and endpoint management. Experience with tools such as Veeam, Datto, and SharePoint would be an advantage.
