About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Power DER Engineer to join a growing power systems engineering organization in Atlanta, GA.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in designing and integrating renewable energy systems, including utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and microgrids. You'll work on technically challenging projects supporting EPC contractors, utilities, and renewable energy developers while collaborating with experienced engineering professionals.

We're looking for an engineer who brings strong technical expertise, understands utility interconnections, and wants to make a meaningful impact on the future of energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and support electrical power systems for utility-scale and commercial and industrial (C&I) solar, BESS, and microgrid projects.

  • Develop and review electrical designs, engineering documentation, and CAD-based drawings.

  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, UL, and applicable utility requirements.

  • Coordinate with power systems studies teams to ensure designs satisfy steady-state and dynamic study requirements.

  • Support utility interconnection activities, including point-of-interconnection (POI) requirements, system impact reviews, and approvals.

  • Evaluate grid integration requirements, including power quality, voltage regulation, electrical protection, and anti-islanding.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams, EPC contractors, and project stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.

  • Provide technical guidance and support engineering design reviews, permitting, and project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably involving renewable energy, DER, or utility power systems.

  • Knowledge of solar PV, battery energy storage, microgrids, and distributed generation technologies.

  • Experience with electrical design and utility interconnection requirements.

  • Working knowledge of IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, UL 1741, NEC, and NESC standards.

  • Understanding of electrical protection, power quality, voltage regulation, and grid integration principles.

  • Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with renewable energy EPC contractors, engineering consulting firms, or electric utilities.

  • Experience with utility-scale solar and BESS projects.

  • Familiarity with CAD-based electrical design and power systems studies.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure is a plus.
