I am working with an established consultancy providing project management, cost consultancy, and energy modelling services that is looking to expand its team. The organisation focuses on retrofit and sustainability, offering expertise in energy modelling, compliance assessments, building performance improvement, and carbon reduction strategies. Their work supports clients in minimising the environmental impact of buildings through informed decisions on materials, systems, and long-term retrofit approaches.
Position Overview
This role is suited to a motivated professional with several years of experience in building performance modelling, energy assessments, overheating analysis, and carbon auditing across both commercial and residential projects.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver practical, low-carbon solutions and contribute technical expertise to improve energy performance across the built environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently produce energy and sustainability reports for planning submissions
- Carry out overheating assessments and develop mitigation strategies in line with industry guidance
- Perform operational energy modelling to predict real-world building performance
- Develop and manage dynamic simulation models using industry-standard software
- Undertake portfolio-level carbon and performance benchmarking assessments
- Complete whole life carbon evaluations using recognised tools
- Conduct site inspections and high-level building services condition reviews
- Produce compliance calculations and energy performance documentation for both new and existing buildings
- Generate energy performance certificates for a range of property types
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage project deliverables, and oversee quality assurance processes
- Build and refine simulation models from concept through to detailed design stages
- Carry out option appraisals to identify optimal retrofit and energy efficiency strategies
- Run thermal simulations and provide guidance on HVAC systems, ventilation, and plant sizing
- Prepare clear technical reports and accessible summaries for clients and planning authorities
- Apply building physics principles and sustainable design strategies to improve performance outcomes
- Provide guidance on carbon reduction for both new developments and refurbishment projects
- Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to embed sustainability into project briefs
Qualifications
- A minimum of three A-Levels (or equivalent)
- A degree in a relevant discipline
- Certification in recognised building simulation software
- Accreditation as a non-domestic energy assessor
Skills and Experience
- Several years of experience in energy and sustainability roles
- Strong experience using dynamic simulation software on a regular basis
- Demonstrated knowledge of energy modelling, engineering principles, and performance analysis
- Ability to interpret complex data and identify efficiency improvements
- Understanding of mechanical systems and building services design
- Familiarity with sustainability standards and building performance regulations
- Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
- Experience within construction, retrofit, or low-carbon design is advantageous
