Junior/Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer 

Location: Kent 

Salary: £28,000 - £40,000 + DOE 

An established consultancy firm is seeking a motivated Junior/Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join their growing building services team in Kent. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles and a genuine interest in delivering innovative, efficient, and sustainable building services solutions across a variety of project sectors.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and development of electrical building services systems
  • Produce high-quality drawings, schematics, and technical documentation using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Dialux/Relux, Amtech).
  • Carry out load calculations, cable sizing, lighting calculations, and other engineering assessments under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Support the preparation of specifications, reports, and feasibility studies.
  •  Liaise with internal design teams, external consultants, suppliers, and contractors to support project delivery.
  • Attend site visits and assist with surveys, commissioning reviews, and design validation.
  •  Ensure designs comply with relevant UK regulations, standards, and industry best practice (e.g., BS 7671, CIBSE guidelines, Building Regulations).
  • Participate in internal design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

What we’re looking for:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • 1–4 years of relevant experience in building services electrical design.
  • Familiarity with UK standards, wiring regulations, and building services design principles.
  • Competent using design and calculation software such as Amtech, Dialux/Relux, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Desirable:

  • Exposure to sustainability and low-carbon design
  • Working towards or interest in gaining professional accreditation (e.g., IEng/CEng with the IET or CIBSE).
