Overview

An established environmental and geoscience consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Hydrogeologist to join its specialist contaminated land and hydrogeology team. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a small, technically strong and forward-thinking consultancy delivering a wide range of projects across the UK.

The successful candidate will play a key role in project delivery, technical leadership, and client engagement, working across both office-based and site-based assignments. The role would suit a motivated and confident hydrogeologist with strong technical, commercial, and project management experience, who is also keen to contribute to the ongoing development of specialist services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage hydrogeology and contaminated land projects within your technical specialism
  • Oversee all aspects of project delivery, including scope definition, risk management, budgets, and programme control
  • Act as a technical lead and primary point of contact for clients
  • Provide specialist hydrogeological input to projects across water resources, environmental assessment, contaminated land, landfill, and development sectors
  • Develop and interpret conceptual site models, large datasets, risk assessments, and numerical models
  • Prepare, review, and sign off high-quality technical reports
  • Ensure technical advice aligns with current best practice, guidance, and legislation
  • Support mentoring and development of junior team members
  • Contribute to business development and identification of new opportunities

Technical Experience

  • Strong background in hydrogeological assessment and contaminated land projects
  • Experience using analytical modelling tools such as RTM, CLEA, ConSim, or RAM
  • Exposure to numerical groundwater modelling packages (e.g. MODFLOW, FEFLOW) is advantageous
  • Field experience including drilling supervision, groundwater and surface water monitoring, aquifer testing, and data interpretation

About You

  • Degree-qualified in a relevant geoscience or engineering discipline; postgraduate qualification desirable
  • Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g. geology, environmental or water-related institution)
  • Proven experience delivering and managing consultancy projects within the UK
  • Strong communication, report writing, and presentation skills
  • Confident leading teams, delegating workload, and mentoring junior staff
  • Commercially aware with the ability to support client development activities
  • Proactive, collaborative, and keen to continue developing your career
  • Full UK driving licence required
