Electrical Engineer - Embedded Robotics

Are you passionate about a role where you’ll be working directly on the robot or other physical system components? We're looking for an electrical engineer to lead our client's embedded systems development for autonomous, underground, logistics robot system. You will have a high level of control over your own designs and the ability to set the tone for electrical hardware and firmware dev environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for robot hardware, transitioning designs from early stage prototypes into production and a general love for taking moonshot projects and pushing them into reality.

Responsibilities

  • You will be turning ideas into a reality which includes defining the constraints of your projects Iterating on your own board designs and firmware from prototype to low production runs
  • Performing in-the-field bring up, testing and debugging on robots and newly installed systems
  • Working with suppliers to order custom boards, cable harnesses, and components
  • Writing and validating reliability focused firmware
  • Collaborating with the rest of the engineering team to make sure the robot architecture is moving towards the company's high level goals

Requirements

  • Strong embedded C/C++ experience on common microcontroller frameworks (ARM, AVR)
  • PCBA design, assembly, analysis and rework
  • Comfortable integrating common sensors and communication protocols (CAN, I2C, SPI, Encoders, Torque / Force sensors, IMUs)
  • Familiarity with basic feedback control and state estimation
  • Experience with electric motors and motor control
  • Comfortable with electrical assembly and test equipment
  • Passion for leading a good dev environment (version control, documentation, unit testing, CI/CD, build systems)
  • Experience implementing robust controls and state estimation on production hardware
  • Experience with RTOSs
  • Familiarity with Linux (familiarity with ROS is a double bonus)
  • Understanding of the full-stack of robotics development (perception, planning, control etc.)
  • Familiarity with RF communication systems
  • Mechanical design experience
  •  Experience with BLDC commutation
