Junior Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Kingston Upon Thames
Salary: £30,000 - £40,000
My client is seeking a motivated Junior Electrical Design Engineer to support the growth of its mechanical and electrical division. This role provides hands-on involvement in all stages of electrical design, from early concept development to project completion. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will build practical skills and gain exposure to a wide range of engineering activities, with excellent opportunities for further training and progression toward professional accreditation.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in the design of electrical systems for major infrastructure projects, including low- and high-voltage systems, lighting, earthing, and associated components
- Produce feasibility studies, design calculations, and technical documentation
- Support site surveys and contract administration activities
- Use industry-standard tools such as ETAP, Trimble, and Dialux for modelling and analysis
- Work collaboratively with senior engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to refine and develop design solutions
- Contribute to the development of efficient, sustainable electrical engineering designs
- Adhere to internal quality, safety, and compliance procedures throughout all project stages
What we’re looking for:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Building Services Engineering
Note: Degrees focused mainly on electronics, with limited electrical engineering content, are not suitable
- Solid understanding of core electrical design principles
- A minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role
- Practical experience is beneficial but not mandatory
- Ability to manage individual tasks effectively while contributing positively to team objectives
- Knowledge of electrical theory including distribution systems, lighting, and earthing
- Familiarity with design software such as ETAP, Trimble, and Dialux
- Strong attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving approach
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders
