Principal Project Structural Engineer

Location: Bristol

Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Project Structural Engineer to join their expanding Bristol office. Due to sustained growth and a strong pipeline of work, this is an excellent opportunity for a technically proficient and motivated engineer to play a leading role within one of the UK’s most respected independent engineering consultancies.

You will be involved in a wide range of commercial, residential, and retail projects, taking ownership of technical delivery while mentoring junior staff and contributing to the continued success of our design team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as technical lead on a variety of structural engineering projects, from concept through to completion.

  • Mentor, support, and review the work of junior engineers and technicians.

  • Lead coordination with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver fully integrated solutions that meet client objectives.

  • Undertake structural analysis and design in steel, concrete, masonry, and timber using industry-standard software such as Tekla Structural Designer and Fastrak Building Designer.

  • Conduct inspections, structural assessments, and prepare high-quality technical reports.

  • Contribute to bids, proposals, and business development activities.

  • Maintain consistency and quality in all technical outputs including drawings, models, and documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.

  • Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE) status.

  • 10–15 years’ professional experience in structural design and project delivery.

  • Broad experience across a variety of building types and construction materials.

  • Strong understanding of Eurocodes and UK design standards.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and report-writing skills.

  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
