About the Role

The Restoration / Demolition Laborer performs general restoration labor plus controlled interior demolition and damaged-material removal for SERVPRO restoration crews. Located in Indianapolis, IN, this role commands higher contractor pay because candidates must possess basic construction knowledge, tool capability, physical stamina, and the ability to perform heavy demolition on water, fire, smoke, or mold-damaged properties.

What You'll Do

• Perform all Restoration General Laborer duties (equipment staging, material handling, cleanup).
• Perform controlled interior demolition of water-, fire-, or mold-damaged structures.
• Remove damaged drywall, plaster, flooring, carpet, carpet pad, insulation, baseboards, and trim.
• Prepare areas for demolition and restoration; erect protective containment to guard unaffected zones.
• Safely operate basic hand tools and power tools (hammers, pry bars, utility knives, reciprocating saws).
• Haul, bag, and transport demolition debris from interior work areas to staging containers.
• Assist technicians with water-damage mitigation, drying-equipment setup, and environmental controls.
• Follow project-specific safety procedures, containment rules, and PPE requirements.
• Communicate site hazards, unexpected structural conditions, or safety concerns to crew leaders.

What We're Looking For

• Basic construction, interior demolition, remodeling, or comparable physical labor experience.
• Demonstrated capability to safely use basic hand tools and relevant power tools.
• Ability to follow detailed technical and safety instructions from crew leaders.
• Reliable transportation to report to jobsites and staging locations in Indianapolis, IN.
• Dependable attendance, strong safety awareness, and physical endurance for demolition work.

Nice to Have

• Prior disaster restoration experience (water mitigation, fire/smoke cleanup).
• Specific trade exposure in drywall removal, flooring tear-out, framing, or remodeling.
• Experience operating power tools in residential or commercial construction settings.

Working Conditions

Work environments include water-damaged homes/businesses, fire and smoke restoration sites, mold-affected areas, partially demolished rooms, attics, crawlspaces, and active construction zones. Physical requirements include frequently lifting/carrying 50+ lbs, team-lifting heavy contents and structural debris, overhead work, climbing ladders, repeated bending, kneeling, crouching, and repetitive demolition motion. Hazards include wet flooring/drywall, airborne dust/debris, mold spores, unpleasant odors, sharp materials, tight/confined spaces, and variable thermal conditions. Full PPE required.
