A well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Gloucester is seeking an Associate Director (Civil Engineering) to lead the technical and commercial delivery of a portfolio of infrastructure and development projects across the South West, South Wales, and the wider UK.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer looking to combine hands-on technical expertise with team leadership, client engagement, and strategic input.
The Consultancy
The business provides civil and structural engineering services across a broad range of sectors, including:
Residential and commercial developments
Social and affordable housing
Care and healthcare facilities
Renewable energy and infrastructure projects
Industrial and logistics developments
Brownfield and remediation schemes
Emerging opportunities within rail and transport infrastructure
While projects are delivered nationwide, the majority of work is based across the South West and South Wales.
The Role
As Associate Director, you will take responsibility for:
Leading the technical delivery of civil engineering projects across highways, drainage, and infrastructure
Ensuring design quality, compliance, and technical excellence across all stages
Overseeing project financial performance, fees, and resource planning
Acting as a senior point of contact for clients and key stakeholders
Managing, mentoring, and developing engineers and technicians
Reviewing and approving calculations, reports, and technical submissions
Contributing to business growth, work-winning, and long-term strategy
You will remain technically active while playing a key role in leadership, quality management, and consultancy performance.
About You
8+ years’ post-graduate experience within a UK civil engineering consultancy
Degree qualified (BEng / MEng) in Civil Engineering
Chartered (ICE) or operating at Chartered-equivalent level
Strong background in highways, drainage, and civil infrastructure design
Experienced in adoption processes including Section 38, Section 278, Section 104, and Section 106
Proficient or knowledgeable in Civil 3D, MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage, and AutoCAD
Confident leading teams and managing complex projects
Strong commercial awareness and client-facing capability
Full UK driving licence
Experience in client management, business development, or mentoring is highly advantageous.
