Backend Engineer
Location: Toronto, Queen and Bathurst - Hybrid (3 days/week)
Compensation: $170,000/year + 1% Equity + Unlimited PTO
At Recode HR, we are partnering with a VC-backed AI Business Intelligence startup to find a skilled Backend Engineer to join their high-calibre team. This role is focused on backend development with an emphasis on enabling APIs and data engineering to develop software that redefines how companies access analytics.

Role Overview and Responsibilities:
Work closely with the CTO to plan, develop, and launch new platform features.
Engage in all aspects of the software development process.
Improve and maintain continuous integration and delivery workflows.
Produce high-quality, maintainable, and efficient code.
Create comprehensive documentation and oversee system performance tracking.
Core Requirements:
Proven experience as a Backend Engineer or similar role.
Strong expertise in Python, AWS, and Terraform.
Proficiency in backend development (data pipelines, databases, APIs, web servers, etc.).
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and SaaS infrastructure security.
Experience in fast-scaling startups (<100 employees) and ownership of critical systems.
Competency with Git, Docker, and collaborative code development practices.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience with AI and Machine Learning algorithms.
Advanced knowledge of infrastructure-as-code and securing SaaS environments.

First 30 days: Assist in delivering key features such as single sign-on, single-tenant deployments, automated insights, and support for unstructured data.
