Principal Civil Engineer — Cardiff

Our client, a well-established multidisciplinary consultancy, is seeking an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join their Cardiff team. This is a key opportunity for a driven engineer who is ready to take ownership of the technical delivery and commercial performance of a diverse project portfolio.

About the Role

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading technical outputs, ensuring engineering quality, and managing design standards across multiple live projects. You’ll provide guidance and support to the wider design team, while also engaging confidently and professionally with valued clients.

This is a hands-on technical role, requiring strong written and verbal communication skills and proven capability in the design of drainage, highways and civil infrastructure—including familiarity with adoption procedures for local highways authorities and water utilities.

Projects are delivered throughout the UK, with particular focus on South Wales and the West of England.

Technical Competencies

Experience with the following software is advantageous:

  • MicroDrainage

  • AutoCAD

  • Civil 3D

  • Microsoft Office Suite

About You

  • Ideally 8+ years’ post-graduate experience

  • Experienced in leading and taking responsibility for design delivery

  • Chartered status preferred, though equivalent experience is welcomed

  • Strong client-facing skills and an empathetic leadership style

  • Full UK driving licence required
