Senior Backend Engineer, Customer Data Activation Remote (North America)
The Problem Marketing and growth teams are sitting on huge volumes of customer data inside their data warehouse, but turning that data into a live audience or campaign almost always means waiting on an engineer who knows SQL. We're building the no-code layer that eliminates that bottleneck, giving anyone the ability to activate warehouse data directly, at a speed and scale that stretches what modern data warehouses can actually do.
This isn't a CRUD app problem. It's a distributed systems and data performance problem: how fast can you query a warehouse, how fresh can you keep an audience, and how do you make all of that feel instant to someone who has never written a line of SQL.
What You'll Own You'll work on the backend systems behind a no-code audience-building and campaign-activation product — one that's become essential day-to-day infrastructure for marketing teams and also powers agentic marketing workflows. Specific problem areas the team is tackling:
Data warehouse performance — pushing the limits of warehouse speed and interactivity through query optimization, pre-computed state, and warehouse-specific tuning
Analytics and experimentation — helping customers build segments, decide what data to sync, and track how different audiences perform across downstream tools
Real-time audience syncing — as warehouses adopt CDC and move toward real-time, building real-time audience computation and syncing
Generative AI — using generative AI to make acting on data more seamless for end users
Key Responsibilities
Design and build backend systems for warehouse-scale data activation
Think holistically about architecture, scalability, maintainability, and reliability
Write and engage with product specs, partnering closely with product on customer-facing tradeoffs
Investigate and implement warehouse-specific performance improvements
Explore real-time computation as warehouses adopt CDC and similar technologies
Growth Path
This is a senior-level role, but the team evaluates impact and growth potential over years of experience. It's a great fit for someone who wants to grow into a leading technical voice on a small, high-leverage team that owns a core product line.
What We’re Looking For
You're a product-minded backend engineer who's just as comfortable digging into distributed systems internals as you are writing a product spec. You're intellectually curious, energized by hard technical problems at scale, and want your work to translate directly into a better experience for non-technical end users.
Required Qualifications
Strong backend engineering experience, ideally with distributed systems
Comfort with architecture-level thinking: scalability, maintainability, reliability tradeoffs
Strong product and customer-facing instincts; experience writing/engaging with specs
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with data warehouse internals or query optimization
Experience with real-time data pipelines or CDC
Exposure to applying generative AI in product workflows
Compensation $180,000–$280,000 USD/year, location-independent (remote-first policy). Meaningful equity via ISOs.
