Drainage Civil Engineer

A well-established and progressive environmental and engineering consultancy is seeking a Drainage Civil Engineer to join its expanding design team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a wide-ranging portfolio of UK projects, with genuine flexibility for hybrid or fully remote working.

You will become part of a collaborative, employee-owned organisation, working alongside senior engineers and a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality drainage and flood risk solutions across various development sectors.

The Role

  • Preparing Flood Risk Assessments to accompany planning applications
  • Producing drainage strategy reports
  • Designing surface water and foul drainage systems
  • Working closely with engineers, planners, clients, and external stakeholders to develop practical, cost-effective solutions
  • Assisting with wider civil and geotechnical design tasks where required
  • Liaising with statutory consultees such as local authorities, highways teams, and water authorities

Essential skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in Infodrainage / MicroDrainage (or similar software)
  • Strong understanding of current UK drainage design standards and best practice
  • Experience designing SuDS in accordance with CIRIA C753 guidance
  • Experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments compliant with NPPF, Environment Agency guidance, and TAN15 (NRW)
  • Good knowledge of UK planning and regulatory frameworks for flood risk
  • Experience producing drainage strategies to meet regulatory requirements
  • Previous use of GIS software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Background:

  • Ideally 2+ years’ experience within a consultancy environment (flexible for strong candidates)
  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline

Desirable (training can be provided):

  • 1D/2D hydraulic modelling experience
  • Familiarity with HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller, Plaxis 2D, or Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of road design standards (DMRB or general civil engineering design)
