A well-established building services consultancy is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team, with the flexibility to work remotely or from its Cambridge office. This is a great opportunity to work across a varied project portfolio, spanning residential, commercial, MOD, leisure, office fit-out, healthcare, and education, developing mechanical systems fully compliant with UK regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design solutions for HVAC, plumbing, and ventilation systems, ensuring compliance with UK Building Regulations (particularly Parts F, G, L, and P) and relevant British Standards
• Apply regulatory requirements around ventilation, sanitation and water safety, energy efficiency, and coordination with electrical installations
• Carry out load calculations, energy modelling, and system analysis to optimise performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
• Prepare and maintain technical specifications, project schedules, and cost estimates
• Oversee drafting and modelling in AutoCAD, Revit, and other design tools
• Carry out site assessments to verify feasibility, compliance, and construction quality
• Prepare and review Building Control submissions and compliance documentation
• Work closely with architects, contractors, Building Control Officers, and other engineering disciplines
• Stay current with CIBSE guidelines, British Standards, and BREEAM requirements, integrating sustainable practices into design work

About You

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline
• 3–5 years' experience in the building services sector, ideally within the UK, with solid knowledge of Building Regulations compliance
• Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations Parts F, G, L, and P as they relate to mechanical building services
• Proficiency in UK design software such as Hevacomp, IES VE, and Revit
• Good knowledge of relevant British Standards, CIBSE guides, and BREEAM
• Experience with Building Control application processes
• Strong communication skills, with experience in multidisciplinary teams
• Professional registration, or working towards CEng with IMechE or CIBSE, is desirable
