Senior Flood Risk & Hydraulic Modeller 

Location: Leeds or London (Hybrid Working Available)

A well-established environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Consultant to join its water team. The role offers the opportunity to work across flood risk and hydraulic modelling for development projects in property, renewable energy, and aviation sectors. Flexible hybrid working is encouraged, with offices based in Leeds or London.

The consultancy has a strong track record of delivering high-quality, cross-disciplinary environmental services, providing clients with innovative, practical solutions. The team has extensive experience supporting planning applications, expert evidence at public inquiries, and working within multiple consenting frameworks including Town & Country Planning and Development Consent Orders. Role Overview

The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and the development of hydraulic models (both fluvial and pluvial) to support projects at all stages—from early strategy and feasibility through to outline design, planning submission, and discharge of conditions. They will work closely with colleagues internally and liaise externally with stakeholders to communicate constraints and opportunities, evaluate flood mitigation options, and prepare technical reports.

Training and support will be provided to develop further skills in drainage, SuDS, and related areas.

Key Skills & Experience

  • At least 4+ years’ experience in hydraulic modelling and preparing FRAs
  • Good knowledge of the planning system, including flood-related policy and guidance such as the NPPF
  • Proficiency with Flood Modeller Pro and TUFLOW
  • Knowledge of hydrology and experience undertaking fluvial and rainfall-based hydraulic assessments
  • Ability to develop, troubleshoot, and interpret hydraulic models, and communicate results effectively to clients
  • Experience liaising with regulators, understanding modelling review processes and requirements
  • Ability to evaluate flood risk constraints and mitigation opportunities at development sites
  • Experience using GIS and AutoCAD
  • Strong report-writing, communication, and project management skills
