I’m working with a growing, independent transport planning consultancy that is looking to appoint either a Senior or Principal Transport Planner as part of its continued expansion.

This consultancy delivers practical, sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions across the UK and is known for its collaborative culture, technical strength, and long-term career development opportunities. The role can be based in Birmingham or Newcastle, with flexibility around hybrid and alternative working arrangements.

The Role

Depending on level, you’ll play a key role in leading and delivering transport planning projects, supporting clients through the planning process, and contributing to the growth of the team.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Leading Transport Assessments, Statements, and Travel Plans
  • Delivering and overseeing junction modelling (ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig – TRANSYT/AIMSUN a bonus)
  • Providing technical review and quality assurance on reports
  • Engaging with clients, local authorities, and key stakeholders
  • Mentoring junior staff and supporting professional development
  • Supporting business development and project management

What They’re Looking For

  • Senior level: typically, 4–5+ years’ consultancy experience
  • Principal level: typically, 7+ years’ consultancy experience
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport policy, guidance, and planning processes
  • Proficiency in TRICS, ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig (TRANSYT/AIMSUN advantageous)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or similar
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with confidence working independently
