Senior Construction Manager

Location: Central South London (Site Based)

We’re working with a well‑established UK specialist contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Construction Manager to lead the delivery of complex construction projects within a fast‑paced, high‑standards environment.

This is a hands‑on senior site leadership role, ideal for someone who takes real ownership of site operations, drives safety and quality, and enjoys developing high‑performing teams on challenging projects.

The Role

As Senior Construction Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You’ll work closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, providing strong leadership across supervisors and trade teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day site operations, ensuring inspections are completed and actions closed out promptly
• Champion and embed a strong safety culture through inductions, toolbox talks and site briefings
• Coordinate trade teams to deliver high‑quality work to programme, resolving site issues as they arise
• Carry out regular inspections of works, plant, equipment and materials to maintain safety and compliance
• Manage site deliveries, on‑hire and off‑hire of plant and equipment, supporting efficient material usage
• Ensure supervisors maintain accurate site records, allocation sheets and reporting documentation
• Provide technical input into the construction programme and contribute practical solutions to challenges
• Keep Project Managers informed on progress, workforce capability and quality
• Maintain a tidy, well‑organised site with appropriate welfare facilities
• Lead, coach and develop supervisors and operational teams, including performance management and workforce planning
• Support commercial awareness on site, contributing to weekly and monthly cost management processes

About You

• Proven experience operating as a Senior Construction Manager or Construction Manager on complex construction projects
• Strong background in site leadership, coordination of multiple trades and programme delivery
• NVQ Level 5 or 6 (or equivalent), with SMSTS and relevant site safety qualifications
• Strong understanding of health & safety legislation, safe systems of work and construction best practice
• Confident communicator with the ability to motivate teams and challenge unsafe or non‑compliant behaviour
• Organised, proactive and commercially aware
• Calm, collaborative leadership style with a focus on quality and continuous improvement
