Senior Sustainability/Building Physics Engineer

Location: Bath - Hybrid

Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 DOE 

A dynamic and forward-thinking consulting and engineering firm is seeking an experienced and eager Senior Sustainability/Building Physics Engineer to join their team in Bristol. As part of the team, you will be working on a range of high-profile projects across various sectors, offering integral advice and solutions. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the building physics and sustainability consultancy input throughout project lifecycles—from concept to completion
  • Contribute to or lead sustainability strategies, including BREEAM, Passivhaus, and Net Zero Carbon frameworks.
  • Conduct dynamic thermal modelling, energy performance simulations, and embodied carbon and life-cycle assessments using tools such as IES VE, SBEM, or similar
  • Undertake overheating assessments, thermal comfort analysis, daylighting, and natural ventilation design evaluations
  • Attend and contribute at design team meetings, client presentations, and site reviews to provide specialist building physics guidance
  • Ensure design proposals comply with UK legislation and best practice—e.g. Part L, NPPF, London Plan, CIBSE guidelines, TM52, TM59, BB101
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, sustainability statements, and certification materials for schemes like BREEAM, Passivhaus, and EPC submissions

What we’re looking for:

  • Proficient in IES, AutoCAD and Revit
  • A degree in Building Services, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, Energy, Sustainability, or a related discipline
  • A qualified Low Carbon Energy Assessor (candidates currently working towards certification will also be considered)
  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and standards, including BREEAM, Net Zero Carbon, and Passivhaus principles
  • Strong understanding of Building Services, including building physics, thermal dynamics, and related calculations; familiarity with current and emerging legislation such as the NPPF, Part L, and the London Plan
  • Experience with energy modelling, life cycle assessments (LCA), and embodied carbon analysis
