Principle Structural Engineer

Location: London

The Principal Engineer plays a key role in delivering projects on time and within budget. As the company continues to grow, the Principal Engineer will take on increasing responsibility for leading a team of engineers and designers, overseeing both technical output and team performance.


Key Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge of relevant structural codes and standards (e.g., British, European).

  • Strong capability in structural scheme design and preparation of associated design calculations.

  • Experienced in producing key project documentation, including:

    • Basis of Design

    • Material Specifications

    • Material Take-offs

    • Scopes of Work

    • Technical Reports

  • Skilled in interdisciplinary coordination and oversight of design processes.

  • Proficient in collaborating with CAD technicians and using software such as Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Experienced in structural analysis and design of foundations and geotechnical structures.

  • Proficient in engineering software such as Statica, Axis VM FEM Modelling, and Tekla Tedds.

  • Ability to lead structural design while accommodating requirements from other disciplines.

  • Provides technical support and mentorship to less experienced team members.

  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of a "lessons learned" knowledge base.

  • Promotes a positive and proactive design and office culture.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the successful delivery of multidisciplinary engineering projects.

  • Act as primary client contact and ensure delivery aligns with client objectives and expectations.

  • Ensure technical accuracy and timely completion of all deliverables, in line with agreed budgets.

  • Undertake key project tasks including calculations, drawings, sketches, and reports.

  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and training to colleagues.

  • Support professional development of junior engineers and designers.

  • Collaborate effectively across disciplines to ensure cohesive project delivery.

Requirements:

  • MEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Minimum of 8 years’ post-qualification experience within a structural engineering practice.

  • Chartered Membership of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).

  • Proven experience in leading project teams and managing delivery to time and budget.

  • Proactive and client-focused, with the ability to foster strong working relationships.

  • Strong leadership, time management, and organisational skills under pressure.

  • Effective communicator, problem solver, and commercially aware.

  • Confident liaising with all members of the design and construction teams.
