Opportunity Overview

A rapidly growing international power systems engineering consultancy is expanding its North American operations and seeking experienced Senior and Principal Power Systems Engineers to support transmission planning, generation interconnection, and grid integration projects.

This opportunity is ideal for technically strong engineers who enjoy solving complex power systems challenges, working directly with clients, and taking ownership of engineering projects.

We are considering candidates at both the Senior and Principal levels, with responsibilities and compensation aligned with technical expertise, professional experience, and leadership capabilities.

Candidates may bring experience in transmission planning, generator interconnection, power systems modeling, renewable energy, battery storage, or related grid consulting disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead transmission planning, generation interconnection, and system-impact studies.

  • Conduct power flow, contingency, short-circuit, stability, and related power systems analysis.

  • Develop, modify, troubleshoot, and validate power systems models using PSS/E, PSLF, and/or PSCAD.

  • Perform dynamic modeling and electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies, where applicable.

  • Support renewable generation, battery energy storage (BESS), inverter-based resources, and large-load interconnection projects.

  • Evaluate system limitations, identify technical challenges, and recommend practical engineering solutions.

  • Prepare and review engineering reports, technical studies, and client deliverables.

  • Coordinate directly with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, developers, and other project stakeholders.

  • Independently manage assigned technical work and contribute to successful project delivery.

  • For Principal-level candidates, provide technical leadership, oversee complex studies, review engineering work, and mentor other engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant power systems engineering experience; additional experience preferred for Principal-level consideration.

  • Strong hands-on experience with PSS/E (PSSE) and/or PSLF, with PSS/E particularly valuable.

  • Experience in transmission planning, generator interconnection, grid integration, or related power systems studies.

  • Strong understanding of power flow, stability analysis, system modeling, and engineering study methodologies.

  • Ability to independently perform technical analysis and deliver accurate engineering results.

  • Experience working with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, generation developers, or engineering consulting organizations.

  • Strong technical writing, problem-solving, and client communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Hands-on PSCAD modeling and EMT studies.

  • Dynamic model development, validation, and troubleshooting.

  • Renewable generation and inverter-based resources (IBR).

  • Battery energy storage systems (BESS).

  • Generator and large-load interconnection studies.

  • Transmission planning and grid reliability studies.

  • Experience with ERCOT, PJM, ISO New England, or other North American ISO/RTO markets.

  • Data center and large-load grid integration.

  • Experience leading complex engineering studies or managing technical projects.

  • Consulting experience involving direct client interaction.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.

Senior vs. Principal Level

Senior Power Systems Engineer

Ideal for experienced, hands-on engineers who can independently perform complex modeling, execute engineering studies, troubleshoot technical issues, and deliver high-quality results.

Principal Power Systems Engineer

Ideal for engineers with strong technical expertise who can independently lead complex studies, oversee project delivery, provide technical guidance, review engineering work, and serve as a technical resource for clients and engineering teams.

Candidates will be evaluated for the level that best aligns with their experience and capabilities.
