Discover are working with an established international manufacturing business to appoint an Engineering Manager to lead its Electrical, Control & Instrumentation function for their site in Cumbria. 

The team has recently recieved significant internal investment, with ambitious plans for growth over the next few years.

This is a key site-based leadership role, responsible for the performance, reliability and continuous improvement of the site's electrical and control systems. You will lead and develop the EC&I team while working closely with Production, Maintenance, Projects and wider site leadership.

The role would suit an experienced Engineering Manager, EC&I Manager that's looking to take ownership of an engineering function within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and develop the EC&I engineering team.
  • Take responsibility for the reliability and performance of electrical, control and instrumentation assets.
  • Develop preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to improve plant reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Provide technical leadership across electrical, PLC, automation, instrumentation and control systems.
  • Lead engineering improvement, modification and capital projects.
  • Work closely with Production and Maintenance to prioritise engineering activities.
  • Manage contractors and specialist suppliers where required.
  • Support engineering budgets, resource planning and capital expenditure.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant legislation, standards and company procedures.
  • Drive a culture of safety, continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • Significant experience within a manufacturing, process, FMCG or industrial environment.
  • A strong electrical, EC&I, controls or automation engineering background.
  • Previous experience leading or managing engineering teams.
  • Experience with PLCs, control systems, instrumentation, VSDs and industrial electrical systems.
  • A track record of improving plant reliability and engineering performance.
  • Experience delivering engineering projects and managing contractors.
  • A relevant engineering qualification such as HNC, HND or Degree.

Most importantly, you will be a practical engineering leader who can combine technical expertise, people leadership and longer-term engineering strategy.
