Senior Commercial Manager

Location: London (Office / Project Based)

We’re working with a well‑established UK specialist contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to lead and support their commercial team on major construction and engineering projects.

This is a senior leadership role suited to someone who combines strong commercial capability with a people‑first leadership style and enjoys working collaboratively with operational teams to drive successful project outcomes.

The Role

You’ll take responsibility for guiding the commercial function across complex projects, supporting both people and process. The role has a strong emphasis on team leadership, strategic commercial input and calm, clear decision‑making within a demanding project environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a commercial team, creating a positive, supportive and high‑performing culture
  • Hold regular performance and development conversations to build capability and confidence within the team
  • Drive improved, collaborative ways of working that strengthen margins and support project delivery
  • Provide commercial input during tender and pre‑construction stages to help shape competitive bids
  • Oversee monthly commercial reporting including CVRs, forecasts and valuations
  • Support audits, subcontract management and dispute resolution with a fair and professional approach
  • Lead claims, variation management and final account negotiations
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure strong alignment between commercial and delivery functions
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and workforce planning within the commercial team

About You

  • Proven experience operating as a Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial Manager within construction
  • Strong people leadership skills with a collaborative, approachable management style
  • Relevant qualification (HND / Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience)
  • Excellent communication skills — confident, clear and professional
  • Strong numeracy, commercial analysis and attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of construction processes, contracts and commercial best practice
  • Calm and considered approach when working under pressure or managing conflict
  • Confident using MS Office and commercial reporting tools
  • Genuine interest in developing and mentoring others
