Associate Geotechnical Engineer

A leading independent multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking for an experienced Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join its established geotechnical team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer looking to take the next step in their career, with responsibility for team leadership, project delivery, client relationships and business development.
The consultancy works across a diverse range of projects, including slope stability, ground movement, foundations, retaining structures, basements, earthworks, remediation and infrastructure, providing exposure to complex and challenging ground conditions.
The Role
As an Associate, you will take a leading role in the delivery of geotechnical projects while supporting the development of the wider team.
Key responsibilities will include:
Providing technical leadership and mentoring to geotechnical engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.
Taking responsibility for the successful delivery of projects, including technical, commercial and programme management.
Managing resources, delegating workloads and reviewing project deliverables.
Undertaking and overseeing site investigations, surveys and inspections.
Developing practical geotechnical solutions for foundations, retaining structures, slopes, basements, earthworks and ground remediation.
Liaising with clients, contractors, architects, engineers and other project stakeholders.
Attending design and project meetings and providing technical input and advice.
Monitoring project scope, fees, resources and programmes, identifying potential risks and agreeing appropriate actions.
Supporting the preparation of tenders, fee proposals and technical presentations.
Developing existing client relationships and building new professional networks.
Promoting the consultancy's geotechnical services and contributing to business development.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced geotechnical professional with strong technical and leadership capabilities.
You will ideally have:
A BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology or Engineering Geology.
An MEng/MSc or equivalent in Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
Chartered status with ICE, the Geological Society or an equivalent professional body.
Significant experience delivering and managing geotechnical engineering projects.
Strong technical knowledge covering areas such as foundations, retaining walls, basements, slopes, earthworks and ground remediation.
Experience working across different ground conditions and applying current standards and industry best practice.
Knowledge of UK ground investigation techniques and construction methods.
Experience with geotechnical design software such as PLAXIS, Slope/W, WALLAP and Oasys.
Strong project management, resource planning and commercial awareness.
Excellent communication skills and the confidence to develop relationships with clients and other professionals.
A proactive approach to problem solving, technical design and team leadership.
Good understanding of CDM and health & safety requirements.
