Senior/Principal Building Physics Engineer

Manchester

£55,000 – £75,000

A growing sustainability and building services consultancy are looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Building Physics Engineer to join its Manchester office.

This is a key strategic hire for the business, offering a clear pathway into leadership as part of a planned succession within the team. With a senior figure set to transition out of the business over the next year, the successful candidate will naturally step into a more influential leadership position over time.

The role is ideally suited to someone with strong technical expertise in building physics and energy modelling who is looking to combine hands-on project delivery with team leadership and long-term progression.

The Role

The successful candidate will take a leading role in delivering building performance and energy modelling workstreams across a range of sectors, helping shape both technical delivery and the future direction of the team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering dynamic simulation modelling and building performance analysis using IES VE or similar software
  • Producing overheating assessments, thermal comfort studies, and operational energy modelling
  • Leading Part L compliance and energy modelling activities
  • Supporting low-carbon and passive design strategies across projects
  • Advising clients and multidisciplinary teams on sustainable building performance solutions
  • Producing technical reports and presenting findings to clients and stakeholders
  • Managing project delivery, quality standards, and technical outputs
  • Mentoring and supporting junior engineers within the team
  • Contributing to business development and client relationship management
  • Supporting the long-term growth and leadership of the Building Physics function

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience at Senior or Principal level within Building Physics or Sustainability Consultancy
  • Strong background in IES VE and dynamic simulation modelling
  • Experience delivering TM52, TM54, Part L, and overheating analysis
  • Strong understanding of building services and low-energy design principles
  • Ability to lead projects and confidently engage with clients
  • Interest in progressing into a broader leadership role over time
  • Degree qualified in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability, or similar

What’s on Offer

  • £55,000–£75,000 salary depending on experience
  • Clear progression pathway into a leadership/director-level position
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
  • Opportunity to shape and grow a key technical team
  • Exposure to high-profile and technically challenging projects
  • Collaborative and supportive working environment

This is an excellent opportunity for a Building Physics Engineer looking for genuine long-term progression, leadership responsibility, and the chance to play a major role in the future growth of a consultancy.
