A highly respected and award-winning civil engineering and transport planning consultancy is expanding its Southwest and South Wales presence and is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join their team in Cardiff or Bristol.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys leading projects, mentoring teams, and working closely with clients to deliver development-led infrastructure schemes. The role offers real influence across projects from early planning through to delivery, within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
The Opportunity
As a senior member of the civil engineering team, you will play a key role in delivering a variety of drainage and highways infrastructure projects across residential, commercial and mixed-use developments.
You’ll work closely with developers, architects, planners and local authorities, helping shape sustainable and practical engineering solutions while supporting the growth of the wider team.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design and delivery of drainage strategies, including SuDS, in line with current UK standards
• Design on-site and off-site highways infrastructure in accordance with DMRB and Manual for Streets
• Deliver Section 278 and Section 38 highway schemes
• Manage project resources and review technical outputs to ensure quality standards
• Prepare and review Flood Risk Assessments and technical reports
• Act as a key point of contact for clients, consultants and stakeholders
• Mentor and support junior engineers, helping develop the next generation of talent
About You
• 5+ years’ consultancy experience within civil engineering
• Degree or HND in Civil Engineering
• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards ICE accreditation
• Strong experience in drainage design and SuDS
• Proficiency with InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow or MicroDrainage
• Skilled in AutoCAD and Site3D (or similar 3D design software)
• Experience managing projects involving highways and drainage infrastructure
• Confident communicator with strong client-facing experience
