Structural Design Engineer 

Location: London

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000


The Design Engineer will support the successful delivery of projects under the guidance of the Principal Engineer and Company Director. As the successful candidate gains experience, the role will evolve to include responsibility for managing the delivery of small to medium-sized projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.

What you'll need:

  • Structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and timber structures in accordance with relevant standards (e.g., British, European).

  • Geotechnical and foundation design.

  • Proficiency in structural engineering software such as Statica, Axis VM FEM Modelling, Tekla Tedds.

  • Preparation of key design documents including Basis of Design, Material Specifications, Material Take-offs, Scopes of Work, Technical Reports.

  • Coordination and supervision of multi-disciplinary designs.

  • Development of design calculations, wind load assessments, and design sketches; providing clear direction to design team members as needed.

  • Collaboration with CAD technicians using software such as Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Interdisciplinary coordination to ensure integration of structural requirements with broader project needs.

  • Contribution to the development and upkeep of a lessons-learned database.

  • Maintain a proactive and positive attitude in both design delivery and office culture.


Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver detailed design work for the Principal Engineer and Company Director.

  • Complete project tasks including technical calculations, drawings, sketches, and reports.

  • Collaborate with CAD/Revit Technicians to produce high-quality project drawings.

  • Attend and lead design and site meetings; conduct site inspections as required.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate and junior engineers.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and across disciplines.

  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure project deliverables align with client objectives.

  • Ensure technical accuracy and compliance with relevant design codes and standards.

  • Lead the delivery of small to medium-sized projects, appropriate to level of experience, within agreed budgets and timelines.

Requirements:

  • MEng (Hons) degree in Structural Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Minimum 3 years of broad post-graduate experience in a professional engineering environment.

  • Working towards IStructE Chartership, with ideally 5 years post-qualification experience.

  • Strong time management and client-focused approach.

  • Resilient under pressure, with strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary design and construction teams.
