Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Manchester 

Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 DOE

An established consultancy firm in Manchester is seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who is eager to make a real difference, contribute their expertise, and enhance the success of a growing, forward-thinking business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage client relationships and define project scope.
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs align with agreed scopes, internal procedures, best practice, and health and safety standards.
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed mechanical designs for building services.
  • Produce specifications, drawings, and reports to agreed timescales.
  • Monitor project progress and design variations throughout delivery.
  • Conduct surveys, investigations, and data collection to inform design.
  • Prepare calculations to support equipment selection.
  • Promote sustainable and low-carbon design solutions.
  • Prepare schematics, layouts, specifications, reports, and design notes.
  • Present design information for quality assurance review.
  • Support, oversee, and mentor junior team members.
  • Identify Health & Safety and CDM issues within design and on-site operations.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends, software, and technical developments.
  • Contribute to business development opportunities and represent the company to clients and industry professionals.

What we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge of modern methods of construction and their impact on building services design.
  • Strong understanding of British Standards, Building Regulations, and sector guidance.
  • Awareness of health and safety in design and CDM regulations.
  • Experience with mechanical ventilation, air conditioning, heating, cooling, and water systems.
  • Proficiency in IES or similar dynamic simulation software.
  • Understanding of acoustic design in relation to M&E plant.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable and low-carbon design principles.
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals within the design process.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).

Qualifications

  • Degree or Higher National Qualification in a Building Services-related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ industry experience.
  • Working towards Chartership (desirable).
