Azure DevOps Engineer

Job Type: 12-month Fixed Term Contract 

Location: Cheltenham or Remote

Salary:  up to £50,000

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Head of Software Development while working day-to-day within several Scrum teams.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be a specialist who is responsible for working with several scrum teams with a view to create/update deployment scripts and document processes. You will mentor and coach colleagues through ongoing use of Terraform for their products. Communication and technical knowledge are key skills needed for this role.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Uses technical skills, existing knowledge, and experience to develop solutions to conform to agreed standards, patterns, architectures, and tools.
• Works with Technology staff to understand relevant technical platform constraints and to align patterns and architectures with platforms to take best advantage of them.
• Maintains regular discussions with software developers to keep all parties apprised of changes, to understand new requirements as they arise.
• Works with the teams to enable and improve the control of software releases.
• Works with teams to organise and plan work in line with the agreed sprint objectives.
• Tracks down and solves bugs in deployment often working with Technology and other staff to isolate the problem.

Essential

• Two or more years’ professional experience in a similar role including:
  • Terraform
  • Microsoft DevOps
  • Azure Cloud Platform
• Excellent understanding of Automation and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
• Excellent understanding of DevOps / CICD processes (Microsoft DevOps)
• Excellent understanding of DevOps best practices.
• Good understanding of Azure Services
• Good understanding of Software Development practices.
• Knowledge of the software development lifecycle.

Highly Desirable: 

• Cloud experience with AWS
• Experience with Serverless Architecture
• Understanding of Security processes (ISO27001)
• Knowledge of agile (Scrum Framework)
• Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
